defiance

Dad might have met his match. Miah refused to ask to be excused from the table tonight; in fact, before she did finally ask, she became hungry again, and we had a second dinner of peas (once she understood that peas were for eating, not for counting). Meanwhile, we saw glares out of the top of her eyes, manipulative tears and hugs, and the defiant stance of crossed arms. Dad couldn't understand why she would be obstinate over such a small thing, but in the bigger picture, Miah put us through one of her biggest tests yet. We won.

Then it was time for a quick, shallow bath that she didn't appreciate at all followed by bed time. She had used up all of her play time by refusing to speak. Without her normal transitions, she was still ready to go. Another hour later, our home has returned to sleepy tranquility.

And I thought that wearing her out at the park was going to make tonight easy on us. Kids can always surprise you.
